Date :04/08/2020Read : 117

= Possible for patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19 who could not register for home voting and medical and support staff to vote there =

The National Election Commission (NEC) of the Republic of Korea will operate a special early voting polling station on April 10 and 11 at the care centers treating patients with confirmed cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The NEC said the decision was made in consultation with health authorities to guarantee the right to vote of voters who were confirmed with cases of COVID-19 after the home voting registration period had ended.

Special early voting stations will be set up at eight care centers in Seoul Metropolitan City, Gyeonggi Province, Daegu Metropolitan City, and North Gyeongsang Province, where there are a number of patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19 and medical and support personnel, and the polling hours have been determined as between five to eight hours a day during the early voting period taking into account the number of people quarantined in the care center with a polling station.

The NEC announced as of April 6 around 900 persons, including patients who were confirmed with cases of COVID-19 and medical and support personnel will be eligible to vote, but this can be changed depending on the admission or discharge of patients up until early voting day.

The NEC plans to pay special attention to safety as it operates polling stations for patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19.

In order to avoid contact between voters, voters will be kept apart during the voting process and after the voting has been completed early voting equipment, ballot boxes, and the return envelopes will be transported after disinfection and sterilization at the facilities.
