According to the National Election Commission, the Election Commission in the districts holding the upcoming repeat/by-elections confirmed and announced 1,003 polling stations and sent out campaign booklets of candidates as well as the voting guide to each household. In addition, the NEC stated that the ‘Finding My Polling Station’ service would be provided from July 21 through the mobile app ‘Election Info’ and the NEC website www.nec.go.kr. 1,003 polling stations are confirmed, 37 of which have been relocated due to poor accessibility, etc. According to the NEC, the polling stations used in the 6th nationwide local elections will also be in operation for the upcoming repeat/by-elections to enable voters to find their polling stations without difficulty. Only 37 polling stations have relocated in the districts where voters experienced inconveniences in accessing polling stations during the June 4 local elections or where buildings to be used as polling stations are not available due to weekday business operations. Reason for relocation of polling stations: poor accessibility (21 places), business operations on normal working days (11 places), newly established constituencies (3 places), and others (2 places). The NEC is planning to put up banners and posters that indicate the relocation of the polling stations around the buildings originally known to be used as polling stations and assign polling station attendants to provide information on the exact location of the polling stations to avoid cases where voters give up on voting without knowledge of the location of the polling stations. The NEC requested to check the location of polling stations through the voting guide, mobile app ‘Election Info’ and the NEC website before visiting polling stations. In addition, the NEC is also going to install temporary polling booths on the ground level for voters with disabilities unless (early) polling stations are located on the ground level to encourage their participation in voting. Vehicles and attendants will also be provided. Meanwhile, one early polling station will be set up in each Eup/Myeon/Dong in the constituencies holding early voting for the upcoming repeat/by-elections, whose total comes to 257. Campaign booklets and the voting guide already sent out to each household and the service to be launched from July 21, providing the ‘Finding My Polling Station’ service through the mobile app ‘Election Info’ and the NEC website According to the NEC, the campaign booklets submitted by candidates and the voting guide have already been sent out to each household in the districts holding the repeat/by-elections. The campaign booklet includes political views and pledges of candidates and such information as on the property owned by candidates, records of military service, tax payment and payment default history, criminal records, etc. that will help voters to select a candidate. The voting guide shows a voter’s name, registered number in the voters list and how to vote during the early voting period and on election day (voting hours, voting places, cautions, etc.). Voters seeking to participate in early voting to be conducted for 2 days from July 25 to 26 can check the location of nearby early polling stations through the mobile app ‘Election Info’ and the NEC website http://www.nec.go.kr and can dial 1390 to get necessary information. Voters seeking to vote on election day are required to check their polling stations in the voting guide or through mobile app ‘Election Info’ or the NEC website which provide the ‘Finding My Own Polling Station’ service |
