Candidate registration closed with the competition rate being 3.7 to 1

According to the National Election Commission, candidate registration has been closed with the competition rate of 3.7 to 1 as 55 have registered as a candidate in 15 constituencies for members of the National Assembly.

The figures show that those who have registered as a candidate include 15 from the Saenuri party, 14 from the New Politics Alliance for Democracy party, 7 from the United Progressive party, 6 from the Justice party, 2 from the Labor party and 11 independents.

3 candidates are registered in Suwon G where a member of its local council will be elected.

Information will be available for viewing at the NEC website http://www.nec.go.kr till election day, such as the property owned by candidates, military service records, income/property/comprehensive real estate tax payment/payment default history for the last 5 years, criminal records, records of candidates’ registration for public official elections, academic transcripts, etc.

Campaign posters of candidates are put up on streets by July 18 and campaign booklets of candidates sent out along with the voting guide to each household by July 20.

The election campaign period lasts from July 17 till 29, during which general voters can engage in election campaigns.

Early voting is conducted for 2 days from July 25 (Fri) to 26 (Sat) and one early polling stations is set up in each Eup/Myeon/Dong where repeat/by-elections take place.
