The Internet Election News Deliberation Commission held the 2nd deliberation meeting on February 17, where it issued warnings and cautions to 8 Internet media companies that had done unfair news coverage in relation to the upcoming local elections. According to the IENDC, the Boryeong City News (bricity.kr) and the Chungnam News (chungnamilbo.com) were issued a warning respectively for exaggerating/highlighting the fact that may affect voters’ judgment and reporting the outcome of a public survey conducted not representing the entire survey target. In addition, a caution has been issued to the Noryeong News (rorynews.kr) that constantly post a video link including a specific candidate’s interview and declaration of candidacy and the DMB News (dmbnews.kr), the Baebang News (baebang.com), the Asan News (asannews.com), the Asan Times and the Asan Top News (asantopnews.com) that remarkably lost fairness in news coverage. As of February 19, 2014, the IENDC has issued 8 warnings, 15 cautions and 61 requests for fair news coverage against unfair news coverage in relation to local elections. Meanwhile, action was taken against 136 cases of unfair news coverage in relation to 2006 & 2010 local elections, 77 of which related to damaging fairness. With the 6th local elections coming closer, the IENDC kindly requested the Internet media companies to do fair and balanced news coverage that will help voters make their judgment. |
