Live Internet broadcast of the voting and counting process for June 4 local elections

The National Election Commission is going to have the voting/counting process for June 4 local elections broadcast in real-time via the Internet, which takes place for the first time in nationwide elections.

According to the NEC, there will be live broadcast of the entire voting/counting process from the poll opening/progress/closing to the delivery of ballot boxes to counting management at more than 1 polling station and counting center in each of the 17 Si/Dos to help voters understand the election process and enhance transparency of voting/counting management.

The NEC is going to have the following broadcast from 5:30 am on June 4, at the polling station in Songpa-gu, Seoul to start with, and then at 18 polling stations nationwide:

-         Poll progress;

-         Poll closing;

-         Closing & Sealing of Ballot Boxes; and

-         Transporting of ballot boxes to counting centers.

The NEC is also going to have the following broadcast after 6 pm on June 4 at 18 counting centers including one in Songpa-gu, Seoul:

-         Declaration of the commencement of counting;

-         Opening of ballot boxes;

-         Arranging of ballot papers;

-         Operation of the optical scan counter;

-         Deliberation & Tally-up of shares of the vote of each candidate and invalid ballots;

-         Verification by commissioners;

-         Announcement of the vote share by the chairperson;

-         Announcement of the final result. 

Live broadcasting will be available through the NEC website (http://www.nec.go.kr), portal sites (Naver and Daum), Pandora TV, Ustream, YouTube, etc.

The NEC is also due to produce and release a video including every kind of election-related information as well as help viewers understand with detailed explanation of administrative duties related to the voting/counting procedures while providing live broadcast of the voting/counting process.

In addition, the NEC is going to host various events such as solving cross-word puzzles, taking photos of voters being determined to vote, etc. to encourage voters’ participation and provide broadcasting with sign language interpretation for hearing impaired voters. 

Meanwhile, the NEC launched the NEC-TV, the Internet Broadcasting Station in April and has since provided every kind of information that relates to election and is useful to public life through the NEC website.

The NEC expressed its determination to enhance transparency and fairness of election while earning more public trust in the election management by constantly providing the public with detailed information on the entire election process.
