The analysis of the turnout in the 6th local elections shows that the highest was 74.4% among voters in their sixties and the lowest 47.5% among those in their thirties. Compared to the turnout in the 5th local elections in 2010, it shows a decrease of about 1%p in between those in the late thirties and fifties while the turnout soared among those in the early twenties (45.8%→51.4%) and late twenties (37.1%→45.1%). The National Election Commission released the result of the analyzing the turnout by gender, age group and area. The target was 4,292,888 (10.4%) out of the total number of voters of 41,296,228, selected through systematic and random sampling based on the voters list between July and August. ▣ Voter Turnout by Gender The analysis shows that the turnout was the same between male and female voters, respectively reaching 57.2%. Since the 16th Presidential election in 2002, the turnout has been a bit higher among male voters than among female voters. However, the turnout was 1.6%p higher among female voters than among male voters in the 18th Presidential election in 2012. And in the 6th local elections, the turnout was the same between male and female voters. In the 5th local elections in 2010, the turnout was 55.1% among male voters and 54.7% among female voters. ▣ Voter Turnout by Age Group Looking at the turnout by age group, the turnout was highest among voters in the sixties (74.4%), followed by 67.3% among those in their seventies or over and 63.2% among those in their fifties. The turnouts among voters in their twenties (48.4%), in their thirties (47.5%) and in their forties (53.3%) were lower than the average turnout. Looking at the ratio of the number of those who cast a vote by age group, it was highest as 21.8% among voters in the fifties, followed by 20.1% among those in the forties, 15.8% among those in the thirties, 14.4% among those in the sixties, 13.5% among those in the twenties, 12.7% among those aged over 70, and 1.6% among 19-year-olds. The ratio of the number of the voters registered in the voters list was highest as 21.6% among voters in the forties, followed by 19.7% among those in the fifties, 19.1% among those in the thirties, 16.0% among those in the twenties, 11.1% among those in the sixties, 10.8% among those aged over 70 and 1.7% among 19-year-olds. Compared to turnout by age group in the 5th local elections, the analysis showed a huge increase in between 19-year-olds and those in the early thirties (47.4%→52.2% among 19-year-olds, 45.8%→51.4% among those in the early twenties, 37.1%→45.1% among those in the late twenties, and 41.9%→45.1% among those in the early thirties). On the other hand, the turnout showed a decrease in between voters in the late thirties and fifties (50.0%→49.9% among those in the late thirties, 55.0%→53.3% among those in the forties, and 64.1%→63.2% in the fifties). There was a 1.6% increase in the turnout among those in their sixties or over (69.3%→70.9%). ▣ Voter Turnout by Gender and Age Group Overall the turnout was high among male voters in their sixties (77.0%) and seventies (77.8%) while it was lowest among voters in their thirties (44.6%). Looking at the turnout among female voters, it was lowest as 48.7% among those in the twenties and showed an increase in higher age groups and then a decrease in the turnout among those in the seventies or over. ▣ Voter Turnout by Gender, Age Group, Si/Do Male voters in their forties or above living in Jeollanam-do achieved the 73.1% turnout, the highest among all while male voters in their thirties living in Daegue achieved 36.9% - the lowest. Looking at the turnout among male voters, those aged 19 and in the twenties achieved the highest in Jeju Special Self-governing Province (58.0% and 53.7%), those in the thirties in Sejong Special Self-governing City (55.5%), and those in the forties or above in Jeollanam-do (73.1%). Looking at the turnout among female voters, 19-year-olds achieved the highest in Sejong Special Self-governing City (61.1%), those in the twenties in Seoul (55.6%), those in the thirties in Sejong Special Self-governing City (62.6%), and those in the forties in Jeollanam-do (71.6%). |
