The National Election Commission (NEC) of the Republic of Korea announced that an inauguration ceremony for new Secretary General Kim Sehwan was held at the National Election Commission in Gwacheon on October 6.
At the inauguration ceremony, Secretary General Kim Sehwan said "as a constitutional body that plays an important role in the structure of the national institutions of Korea, the NEC must strictly observe the principles of independence and neutrality, and each employee must be equipped with the competencies of an election management expert."
In particular, he emphasized that preparations will be made immediately in order to successfully manage re and by-elections next April, and the 20th presidential election held in 2022 and 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections to be held in 2022.
Secretary General Kim Sehwan has held a number of senior positions at the NEC including Director General of the Investigation Department, Chief Election Policy Officer, Chief Planning and Coordination Officer, and he had been Deputy Secretary General since October 2018.
