The National Election Commission of the Republic of Korea, as the chair of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA), suggested at the AAEA Executive Board Meeting held in the Philippines from November 11 to 13, 2013 that AAEA join in supporting the Philippines severely hit by the typhoon Haiyan. Following the NEC’s suggestion, a donation of US$10,000 has been made to the Philippines by AAEA.

What was discussed at the AAEA Executive Board Meeting includes whether to approve of membership applications by the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan and the Election Commission of Maldives and how to reinforce AAEA’s activities. There were also discussions on how to work in conjunction with the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) whose foundation was actively initiated by the NEC.

The AAEA was established in 1998 and is currently composed of 17 member states. The NEC has been in office as the Chair since 2011. Meanwhile, Mr. Lee Jong-Woo, the Vice Chairperson of NEC presided over the AAEA Executive Meeting as a Chair.
