The 6th local election comes 1 year after from now
The NEC, directed strict measure against serious electoral violations
= Held a meeting for preventive and regulative actions against violations to prepare the 6th simultaneous local election = The National Election Commission(NEC) hosted a meeting for preventive and regulative actions against violations to prepare the 6th simultaneous local election with guidance directors from 17 Cities and Provinces nationwide and team manager of Special Election Surveillance Unit on June 4. The NEC directed that as the 6th local election comes one year after, there are concerns that prospective candidates may violate laws to raise his/her awareness. Accordingly, it is needed to check the preventive and regulative systems customized to each City/Province Election Commission. The NEC highlights preventive actions first on violations by strengthening the preventive activities like informing the election law in advance. On the other hand, it has a plan to strictly control the serious election violations like buying votes or an engagement of public officials in an illegal election by working with the Special Election Surveillance Unit. In addition, the NEC will concentrate its regulation capabilities on rooting out illegal activities that occurred recently or is likely to happen in regards to the 6th local election. The electoral violations that the NEC will intensively regulate for a year before the 6th local election are as follows: ▲ Activity of visiting various events repeatedly or continuously to distribute his/her business card aiming at increasing the awareness ▲ Activity of donating money or goods to athletic competitions or travels of local residents ▲ Activity of establishing or operating an institution or private organization like research institutes or forums for electioneering and supporting its operation cost or collecting donations from members aiming at expanding candidate''s bedrock ▲ Activity of gathering party members through paying party membership fees instead to be elected in the primary(Intra-party competition) ▲ Activity of local journals that request or collect money or goods from a candidate under the pretext of election planning or opinion survey ▲ Activity of public officials that engage in election voluntarily or by force for the leading candidate including heads of local governments The NEC asked the public to use the nationwide call, 1390 for various inquires regarding elections or violation reports. |
